Delcy Rodríguez, the vice president who became acting president after Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, was ousted by U.S. force, publicly requested cooperation from the United States. This marked a change from her previous stance of showing a determination to resist the United States.

On the 4th (local time), Acting President Rodríguez said in a statement posted on Instagram, "We ask that the United States cooperate with us around a cooperative agenda aimed at joint development within the framework of international law."

In the English-language statement he said, "To President Donald Trump: our people and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war."

Acting President Rodríguez reaffirmed, "Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence," and added, "We prioritize that, on the premise of sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs, the United States and Venezuela move toward balanced and mutually respectful international relations."

Earlier, Acting President Rodríguez had expressed a determination to resist the United States at an emergency cabinet meeting held immediately after President Maduro was detained by the United States, saying, "Our only president is Maduro."

In particular, in response to President Trump mentioning "Venezuela operation," Acting President Rodríguez also protested, saying, "Venezuela will not become the colony of any country."

President Trump's pressure appears to have changed Acting President Rodríguez's stance. President Trump publicly pressured her in interviews, saying, "(If Vice President Rodríguez) does not do the right thing, she will pay a very high price."
