Summary

  • The U.S. government said it canceled the release of the third-quarter GDP advance estimate.
  • It said delays in the GDP advance estimate could act as a factor that increases short-term uncertainty in the market.
  • It said the speed of normalization of statistical schedules could also affect the Fed's assessment at the December FOMC.

The U.S. government canceled the release of the 2025 third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) advance estimate. Although the federal government shutdown has ended, it is analyzed that more time is needed for economic indicators to normalize due to delays in statistical production.

On the 24th (local time), according to the economic news channel Walter Bloomberg, the U.S. government ultimately canceled the scheduled release of the third-quarter GDP advance estimate. They said schedule adjustments were unavoidable because statistical production and verification work had been suspended during the shutdown.

Although the shutdown has already ended, it was reported that statistical agencies have a significant backlog of work. Earlier, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also canceled the release of the October consumer price index (CPI).

The GDP advance estimate is an indicator that plays a key role in assessing economic trends, and delays in its release can act as a factor that increases short-term market uncertainty. Market participants believe that the speed at which statistical schedules return to normal could also affect the Fed's assessment at the December FOMC.
