Summary

  • Ethereum's block gas limit was raised from 45 million to 60 million, an increase of about 33%.
  • The gas limit adjustment was automatically applied after more than half of the validators agreed.
  • Ethereum said it will improve the network's scalability through a major upgrade in early next month.

The Ethereum (ETH) network's block gas limit has been raised by about 33%.

Toni Wahrstätter (Ethereum Foundation researcher) said on the 26th (local time) via X, "Ethereum's gas limit is now operating at 60 million," adding, "this figure has doubled in just the past year." The previous Ethereum block gas limit was 45 million.

The raised Ethereum gas limit has been in effect since the 25th. The Block reported, "(The gas limit) adjustment was automatically applied after more than half of the validators — the threshold required by Ethereum's current consensus rules — agreed."

Meanwhile, Ethereum is scheduled to undergo a major upgrade in early next month. Specifically, Fusaka will be applied to the Ethereum mainnet on the 3rd of next month. The core of this upgrade is improving the Ethereum network's scalability through the blockchain innovation 'PeerDAS (PeerDAS)'. The Ethereum Foundation said, "(The Fusaka upgrade) is a very important step in Ethereum's scalability roadmap."
