Michael Saylor, chairman of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), said he has no plans to issue perpetual preferred stock (digital credits) in the Japanese market for at least one year.
According to crypto media CoinDesk on the 9th (local time), Chairman Saylor made the remark during a discussion with Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich at the 'Bitcoin MENA Conference' recently held in Dubai. When CEO Gerovich asked, "Does MSTR also plan to list digital credits in Japan?", Saylor replied, "Not in the next 12 months. I will consider that period Metaplanet's time."
Metaplanet is preparing to list new digital credit products 'Mercury' and 'Mars' in the Japanese perpetual preferred stock market. CEO Gerovich explained, "With Japanese bank deposit rates in the 0% range, Mercury offers yields more than 10 times higher." Both products are reported to aim for listing in early next year.
The Japanese perpetual preferred stock market currently has only five listings and is relatively small in size, and unlike the U.S., issuance of shares via the ATM (at-the-market) method is not allowed.
Strategy has recently expanded its perpetual preferred stock programs such as STRK and STRC in the U.S., and launched a euro-denominated product 'STRM' outside the U.S. However, Saylor said regarding timing for entering Japan, "We do not intend to compete with Metaplanet in the Japanese market at this stage."
