Crypto-friendly U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis publicly criticized the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) for selling Bitcoins (BTC) seized from the Bitcoin mixing service Samourai Wallet.

On the 6th (local time), according to DL News, a media outlet specializing in virtual assets (cryptocurrencies), it was reported that the USMS sold 57.55 BTC (approximately $6.36 million), and Lummis said, "I express deep concern that the U.S. government sold bitcoins it seized."

She said, "It's hard to understand why the government is still cashing out bitcoin, despite U.S. President Donald Trump instructing to stockpile bitcoin as a strategic asset," and added, "Other countries are accumulating bitcoin, and the U.S. cannot afford to squander a strategic asset."

These remarks came amid ongoing controversy over the U.S. government's bitcoin holding and disposal policy, suggesting that political debate over the U.S. government's crypto strategy and how to handle seized assets could reignite.
