U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 11th (local time) that Iran had called to say it “wants negotiations,” following his threat of U.S. military intervention in response to massive anti-government protests in Iran.
According to AFP, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that “Iran’s leadership called yesterday,” adding, “A meeting is being set up. They want negotiations.” Reuters reported that Trump said Iran had reached out seeking “nuclear talks.”
Trump added, however, that “we may have to act before the meeting,” a remark seen as referring to a range of response options under review, including military options related to the anti-government protests in Iran.
