U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly set to interview a BlackRock executive this week as a contender to succeed the chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed).
On the 12th, Walter Bloomberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that "President Trump plans to interview Rick Rieder of BlackRock as a candidate to succeed Fed Chair Jerome Powell." This is seen as part of the vetting process for selecting the next Fed chair.
Market participants, however, largely judge that Rieder is unlikely to be nominated. According to the prediction market Kalshi, the probability of Rieder being nominated as Fed chair currently stands at about 4%, placing him well outside the leading tier of contenders.
Trump is expected to announce his final decision on the Fed chair selection in January.
