According to the economics breaking-news account Walter Bloomberg on the 21st (local time), Rasmussen said, "U.S. President Donald Trump's ambitions are still alive," while adding that "it is a positive sign that he is not planning to use force."

He went on to say, "We will keep the diplomatic track on the Greenland issue," stressing, "Denmark will not negotiate a compromise that undermines our fundamental principles."

Earlier, President Trump raised the possibility of annexing Greenland and suggested pressure tactics such as imposing tariffs. In response, the Danish government has consistently stated that its sovereignty and principles cannot be violated.
