Bithumb said on the 22nd that it has launched an Information Security Advisory Committee involving external experts to elevate the exchange’s security framework to a core pillar of management governance. The move aims to supplement a security decision-making structure that had relied on internal judgment and to establish an always-on validation system.
On the 20th, Bithumb held an inauguration ceremony for the Information Security Advisory Committee at the Bithumb Financial Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and convened its first advisory meeting. The committee was formed to enhance safety and trust by reviewing the exchange’s security policies and response strategies from the objective perspective of external experts.
Since the enforcement of the Virtual Asset User Protection Act in 2024, Bithumb has expanded collaboration with external experts by operating bodies such as the Internal Control Committee, the Market Surveillance Committee, and the Anti-Money Laundering Risk Management Committee. With the launch of this advisory committee, it is now formalizing professional verification and decision-support mechanisms in the information-security domain as well.
The Information Security Advisory Committee is composed of domestic experts in information security and blockchain security. The co-chairs are Lee Jae-won, CEO of Bithumb, and Prof. Kim Seung-joo of Korea University, with Prof. Kang Min-seok of KAIST, Prof. Son Gi-uk of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Kang Eun-sung of Seoul Women’s University serving as advisory members.
The committee will combine quarterly in-person regular meetings with ad hoc consultations. With the goal of strengthening a prevention-focused security framework and operational resilience, it plans to broadly address information-security policies and technology strategy, integrated security management, cyber-threat response scenarios, employee security training, and regulatory response strategy. It will also play a role in proactively managing and validating security risks inherent to virtual assets themselves—beyond personal data protection—and recommending improvements.
A Bithumb official said, “The Information Security Advisory Committee is an organization that redefines information security—beyond regulatory compliance—as a core management task that determines brand trust and sustainability,” adding, “Through ongoing verification and advice from external experts, we will build a transparent and highly trustworthy information-security framework.”
