Russia attacked Ukraine on the 24th (local time) while holding a third round of talks with the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to Reuters and other outlets, Russia’s drone and missile strikes early that morning injured a total of 13 people in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and in Kharkiv in the country’s northeast.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that two of the injured were in critical condition.

In Kharkiv, about 30 km from the Russian border, Russian drones hit facilities including refugee shelters and a hospital, injuring 11 people, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

In Abu Dhabi, trilateral talks among the U.S., Russia and Ukraine to discuss ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war began the previous day. Ukraine was represented by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Presidential Office, and Rustem Umerov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, while Russia’s delegation included Ihor Kostyukov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). The U.S. side included envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
