Executives of South Korea’s virtual asset (cryptocurrency) exchanges are expected to visit the National Assembly for talks with parliamentary officials.

According to the industry on the 3rd, heads of major virtual asset exchanges are reportedly planning to hold a meeting on the morning of the 4th at the National Assembly with lawmakers on the Democratic Party of Korea’s Digital Assets Task Force (TF). However, it has not been confirmed whether all executives from the five major won-based exchanges—Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit and GOPAX—will attend, or whether only some will participate.

At the meeting, the industry’s concerns may be conveyed regarding the recently controversial proposal to limit the ownership stake of major shareholders in exchanges.

An official at Rep. Lee Jung-moon’s office, who serves on the Democratic Party’s Digital Assets TF, said, "The exchange side merely requested a visit to the lawmakers’ office for a meeting," adding, "Specific points to be communicated were not shared in advance, and the meeting is also expected to be held behind closed doors."
