According to The Block, a digital-asset (cryptocurrency) industry media outlet, on the 3rd (local time) TeraWulf said it had acquired facility sites located in Kentucky and Maryland. Through the acquisitions, it additionally secured about 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of power capacity.
TeraWulf said it plans to use the site acquisitions to pursue future expansion of its mining infrastructure and improvements in operating efficiency. The company did not disclose further details on the size of the investment or the project timeline.
Immediately after the announcement, TeraWulf shares surged. The stock rose about 12% intraday, and although the gain later pared back somewhat, it traded up 9% at around $14.74.
The market is viewing the deal positively, as securing power is a key factor determining the long-term competitiveness of bitcoin miners. Across the mining industry, electricity costs and securing a stable supply chain are major variables.
