Foreign Minister Cho Hyun meets with US Secretary of State; tariffs among topics expected to be discussed

South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun began talks on the 3rd (local time) with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Cho met Rubio at 2 p.m. that afternoon at the US State Department headquarters in Washington, DC.
Ahead of the meeting, the two posed for photographs facing forward between the two countries’ flags, but walked into the meeting room without responding to reporters’ questions asking them to comment on “tariff negotiations.”
Cho, who arrived in the United States the same day, is expected to request in the talks that US President Donald Trump withdraw or suspend the recently announced tariff hike on South Korea.
They are also set to discuss the swift implementation of the joint fact sheet produced as a result of the leaders’ summit between South Korea and the United States.
Meanwhile, on the 4th Cho will also attend the “Critical Minerals Ministerial” hosted by the US State Department.
