Summary
- Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, said it has added the mobile Resident Registration Card to its existing identity verification methods.
- With the move, foreign residents in Korea will also be able to verify their identity using various mobile IDs, it said.
- Dunamu said it will strengthen customer convenience and the verification framework to help build a trustworthy trading environment.

Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, said on the 5th that it has added the mobile Resident Registration Card to its existing identity verification (KYC, Know Your Customer) methods.
With the move, foreign residents in Korea—who previously could complete identity checks only with physical ID—will now be able to verify their identity using a mobile Alien Registration Card, a mobile Permanent Resident Card, and a mobile Domestic Residence Report Card for Overseas Koreans of foreign nationality.
In May last year, Upbit became the first digital-asset exchange in Korea to adopt the mobile driver’s license as an identity verification method. The introduction of the mobile Resident Registration Card is intended to strengthen customer convenience and the verification framework in response to the broader use of mobile IDs and changes in the issuance environment via private-sector applications.
Oh Kyung-seok, CEO of Dunamu, said, "We have expanded mobile ID authentication so customers can use our services more conveniently and safely," adding, "Upbit will continue to put user protection and convenience first and work to build a trustworthy trading environment."
