According to CoinDesk, a digital asset (cryptocurrency) news outlet, Bitcoin margin long positions on Bitfinex totaled about 77,100 BTC as of the 5th (local time). This is the largest amount since December 2023.

Bitfinex margin long positions have at times served as a contrarian indicator in past market cycles. The pattern, it said, has been that positions increase during price declines and decrease when prices rebound.

Based on this trend, the outlet analyzed that "an expansion in margin long positions suggests the market may not have found a bottom yet." It added that as leveraged long positions accumulate, there remains room for further volatility to increase.

Bitcoin has recently seen heightened volatility amid macroeconomic uncertainty and risk-off sentiment. During this period, crowding in derivatives-market positioning has also been observed.

Market participants say that until Bitcoin’s price direction becomes clearer, shifts in margin positioning could influence short-term price moves.
