Changpeng Zhao: "Listing all tokens—decentralized and centralized exchanges are different"

Changpeng Zhao, co-founder of Binance, shared his views on the differences between how centralized exchanges (CEXs) and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) list tokens.
On the 10th, Zhao wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that while "listing all tokens on a DEX is a good thing," "listing all tokens on a CEX can be problematic." He added that exchanges should provide access to as wide a range of assets as possible, but users do not necessarily need to buy every listed asset.
He explained, "Each exchange has its own listing framework, and it can change over time." He continued, "Most CEXs are looking for a certain balance," noting that listing all tokens could lead to various issues, such as securities-law concerns and smart-contract risks.
Previously, crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen posted on X (formerly Twitter) that continually listing low-quality meme coins to cater to short-term retail demand undermines the industry's credibility, adding in effect, "If we don't respect ourselves, how can we expect others to respect this industry?" Zhao's remarks are a response to such concerns.
He added, "Listing all tokens doesn't mean you have to buy all tokens."
