The Democratic Party’s Digital Assets Task Force (TF) is set to finalize, as early as later this month, the ruling-party bill for the Digital Assets Framework Act.
According to the industry on the 11th, the DP TF will hold its final meeting on the framework bill on the 24th of this month. The meeting will also discuss key contentious issues surrounding the legislation, including regulations on equity stakes in virtual-asset exchanges and who would be eligible to issue won-denominated stablecoins.
The DP TF plans to finalize the ruling-party proposal after the meeting. Earlier, DP Policy Committee Chair Han Jeong-ae said the previous day (the 10th), “(We will) ensure it can be introduced within February.”
Attention is focused on whether the ruling-party proposal will include core issues such as bank-led stablecoin issuance and a 15–20% cap on major shareholders’ stakes in virtual-asset exchanges. The DP Digital Assets TF advisory committee recently submitted an opinion to the TF opposing exchange stake regulations, citing concerns such as potential unconstitutionality.
