"White House launches emergency push to avert shutdown…moves to win over Democrats"

The White House is reportedly moving to persuade Democrats in an effort to avert a partial shutdown of the federal government.

According to Walter Bloomberg on the 12th (local time), the White House recently provided Democrats with legislative language related to preventing a shutdown at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Walter Bloomberg reported that "the White House made a last-minute push ahead of the DHS funding deadline."

However, Democrats are expected to reject the proposal. Democratic U.S. senators have previously said talks over DHS funding have stalled.

Democrats say they will not agree to a stopgap funding bill unless there is an agreement on reforms to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen said "the White House response lacks specificity," adding that "Republicans are relying on a short-term (budget) extension to avoid immigration reform."

Meanwhile, on Polymarket, the world’s largest betting site, the probability that the U.S. federal government will face a partial shutdown within the next 14 days jumped to 90%. That is up 17% points from the previous day (73%).
