Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp. (KOMSCO) said it plans to expand its business scope into digital assets such as stablecoins.

According to industry sources on the 15th, KOMSCO said after a recent earnings announcement that it plans to broaden its business beyond digital IDs and cultural content to include stablecoins and other areas, in a bid to secure new growth engines. The idea is to get ready to move ahead with related projects once the institutional and regulatory environment for digital assets is put in place.

KOMSCO has already been expanding non-currency businesses, including operating mobile IDs and exporting security ink based on anti-counterfeiting and anti-tampering technologies. On the back of this new-business growth, last year’s revenue and operating profit hit record highs since the company’s founding, and the share of non-currency business revenue has risen to the high-80% range. However, concrete business models and timelines for its stablecoin initiatives have yet to be disclosed in detail.
