‘Boycott’ campaign in anti-Trump circles

A “QuitGPT” movement—canceling ChatGPT subscriptions—is spreading across the United States. The backlash comes after it emerged that executives at OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, made large donations to a super PAC, a special political action committee that supports President Donald Trump. The boycott has gained further traction following reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is using ChatGPT technology.
According to the IT industry on the 17th (local time), a campaign in which users cancel their ChatGPT subscriptions and post proof has been circulating on social media platforms such as Instagram and X. Organizers leading the campaign via a website claimed that more than 700,000 people have so far declared a boycott of ChatGPT.
The boycott began after reports said that OpenAI President Greg Brockman and his wife donated $25 million last year to a MAGA group that supports President Trump, and also provided funding to “Leading the Future,” an organization calling for looser regulation of the AI sector. Campaign organizers said, “Key OpenAI executives, including Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, donated 26 times more to President Trump than other major AI companies,” adding that “ICE’s resume screening is also powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4.”
