Trump: "Supreme Court ruling has actually strengthened my authority… tariffs and licenses can be leveraged"
Summary
- President Trump said a recent Supreme Court ruling has strengthened presidential authority, enabling him to more forcefully use tariffs and licensing powers.
- Trump said that every license comes with a fee in connection with licensing regimes for foreign countries, and that the United States should also be able to use them.
- Trump said the Supreme Court approved other tariff measures, allowing them to be used more strongly under legal certainty.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court has, in fact, strengthened presidential authority.
On the 23rd, Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, "The Supreme Court has given me much more authority and power than I had before." While criticizing the recent decision as one that "causes international division," he stressed that the ruling would allow him to exercise tariff and licensing powers more forcefully.
Trump specifically referenced licensing regimes for foreign countries, saying, "Every license comes with a fee," and argued that the United States should also be able to use them. He also cited the Court’s approval of other tariff measures, saying they can be used "more strongly under legal certainty."
While taking a critical stance toward part of the Court’s decision, he referred to certain justices, saying, "except for the three great ones."
He also raised the 14th Amendment and the issue of birthright citizenship, expressing concern that the Court could deliver an incorrect judgment on related matters in the future. "I have work to do," he said, adding, "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."
Previously, on the 21st, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the reciprocal tariff measures Trump imposed on countries around the world under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were unlawful.
