According to Walter Bloomberg on the 23rd (local time), Trump said the authority to impose tariffs was granted long ago, and that a recent Supreme Court ruling also reaffirmed it.
He also criticized the ruling as a "poorly crafted" decision.
Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court had found that the president exceeded his authority by imposing sweeping tariffs without explicit approval from Congress. In response, Trump has been stressing that the executive branch’s trade authority remains valid.
