Amazon’s planned $50 billion investment in OpenAI is said to have been structured in stages, conditional on the achievement of specific milestones such as attaining artificial general intelligence (AGI) or completing an initial public offering (IPO).
According to Walter Bloomberg on the 26th (local time), most of Amazon’s investment would be released as conditional funding if OpenAI develops AGI or succeeds in listing.
SoftBank and NVIDIA are also reportedly planning to proceed in stages with investments of $30 billion each. Microsoft, meanwhile, has yet to decide whether to participate in this funding round.
Commentators say the talks over this massive investment show that competition among Big Tech and global capital for leadership in the generative AI market is intensifying.
