Reports said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired ballistic missiles on the afternoon of the 1st (local time) at a U.S. aircraft carrier operating in the Gulf of Oman in the Middle East.
According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency on the day, the IRGC claimed that “the proud Iranian armed forces attacked the enemies of the United States and the Zionists (Israel), and the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln was hit by four ballistic missiles.”
The IRGC said it is “carrying out powerful attacks targeting the military strength of the exhausted enemy,” adding that “land and sea will become the graveyard of the invading terrorists.”
There has been no official response yet from the U.S. side, including U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. operations in the Middle East.
The U.S. military had been preparing for military operations by deploying to Middle Eastern waters, for several weeks ahead of jointly attacking Israel and Iran, the 3rd Carrier Strike Group led by the Abraham Lincoln and the 12th Carrier Strike Group with the Gerald R. Ford as its flagship.
