U.S. President Donald Trump said in a White House address to the nation that the United States is carrying out a large-scale military operation against Iran.
According to Walter Bloomberg on the 2nd (local time), President Trump stressed that "Iran has refused to halt its nuclear weapons development" and that "it is unacceptable for Iran to come to possess missiles capable of striking the United States. We cannot accept Iran having nuclear weapons."
He went on to say, "We mourn four U.S. service members killed in action," adding, "We will prevail, and we will continue to respond to the threat from Iran."
He also added that "we expected this military action to take 4–5 weeks, but it could take longer."
The remarks come as military tensions between the United States and Iran intensify, further increasing uncertainty in the Middle East.
