Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said she has no connection to the virtual asset (cryptocurrency) 'SANAE TOKEN,' which shares her name.
On the 2nd, Takaichi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that she had heard "a cryptocurrency called SANAE TOKEN has been issued and is being traded to some extent," adding, "There appear to be various misunderstandings because of the name, but I have no knowledge whatsoever of the token, and my office has not received any information about it either."
She continued, "I have never given any approval in relation to this matter," adding that she was stating her position "so that the public does not misunderstand."
According to local reports, SANAE TOKEN is a virtual-asset project that began through a YouTube channel run by an entrepreneur. Reports also said a notice stating it has no direct connection to Prime Minister Takaichi was posted on the project’s official website.
However, confusion arose online because it uses the same name as the prime minister. SANAE TOKEN is said to have risen about 30-fold from its initial price since its launch on the 25th of last month.
