China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with Israel’s foreign minister, setting out Beijing’s stance on the situation in the Middle East.

According to BlockBeats, a media outlet specializing in virtual assets (cryptocurrencies), on the 3rd Wang, China’s foreign minister, spoke by phone with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.

After hearing Israel’s position on the current situation, Wang said China has consistently maintained that international and regional issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation. He stressed that “all countries must abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and must not use or threaten to use force in international relations.”

Wang said China has long worked to promote a political solution to the Iran nuclear issue. Noting that the recently ongoing Iran-US talks had been making progress but were halted due to military clashes, he expressed “regret.” He also said, “China opposes military attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States.”

He went on to urge that “force cannot fundamentally solve problems and may instead create new ones and serious aftereffects,” adding that “military action must stop immediately.” He also said China has consistently maintained an impartial position on Middle East issues and would continue to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions.

Wang also called for assurances of the safety of Chinese nationals and Chinese institutions, and Minister Sa’ar said he would take the matter seriously and ensure their protection.
