US President Donald Trump argued that, following the death of Iran’s supreme leader, the United States should play a direct role in determining Iran’s next leader.
According to Walter Bloomberg on the 5th (local time), Trump said in an interview that “the United States should be involved in who Iran’s next leader will be.” He added that the emergence of a leader similar to the existing power structure should be viewed with caution.
He voiced a negative view of Mojtaba Khamenei (Mojtaba Khamenei), widely cited as a leading contender to succeed the supreme leader, saying that “Iran needs a leader who will bring harmony and peace, not someone who returns to past policies.”
Trump also compared Iran’s succession situation to the case of Venezuela, underscoring his stance that the United States should actively engage with shifts in the Middle East. He went on to claim that US military operations are producing results in the region, and also mentioned the possibility of military action by Western-backed Kurdish forces.
