Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has again temporarily suspended operations amid fallout from U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
According to Reuters, Bloomberg and other foreign media on the 7th (local time), Dubai authorities said that day, “We are temporarily suspending operations at Dubai International Airport to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff and airline crews.”
Bloomberg reported the move followed a minor incident caused by debris after the UAE intercepted a projectile in its own airspace.
As a result, operations by Dubai-based Emirates were also halted again. Emirates had suspended some flights due to the Iran war, then resumed services across its entire network on the 6th.
However, Emirates announced that it “will resume operations” about 30 minutes after suspending Dubai flights, and the airport said shortly afterward that it would partially resume operations.
Air routes over the Middle East have been effectively paralyzed since the Iran war broke out on the 28th of last month, as Iran retaliated against U.S. and Israeli airstrikes by launching drones and missiles at major airports and infrastructure in neighboring Gulf states.
Dubai International Airport, which ranked No. 1 in international passenger traffic last year, had suspended flights indefinitely after Iran’s drone attack, but has been gradually resuming limited operations since the 2nd.
