Hong Kong-based family offices are planning to raise their allocation to crypto assets and private markets over the coming years.

According to Bloomberg on the 10th, a report released by the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR) said Hong Kong family offices are expected to show a sharp increase in investment interest in crypto assets over the next three years, alongside private equity, private credit and venture capital.

The Hong Kong government has been pursuing policies to attract family offices in an effort to draw capital from global high-net-worth individuals and wealthy investors. As a result, the number of single family offices based in Hong Kong totaled 3,384 as of the end of last year, up about 25% from 2023.

Giorgio Valente, head of research at HKIMR, said at a briefing, "The crypto-asset market is growing, but it is still at an early stage," adding that "long-term investors, including family offices, are watching the market and reviewing their investment strategies."

The report is based on a survey conducted from October 2024 to April 2025 of 101 institutions, including single family offices and multi-family offices.

About 44% of respondents said they manage at least $1 billion in assets. Their wealth was found to have been built mainly in Hong Kong, mainland China and other parts of Asia.
