U.S. President Donald Trump said preventing Iran’s nuclear development is more important than the rise in international oil prices.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on the 12th (local time), Trump wrote, "The United States is the world’s largest oil producer," adding, "So if oil prices go up, the United States makes a lot of money."
"But as President, what is far more important to me—and what I care about much more—is stopping Iran, an evil empire, from having nuclear weapons and destroying the Middle East and the world," he said, adding, "I will not let that ever happen."
Meanwhile, international oil prices climbed back above $100 a barrel despite the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) decision to release a large volume of strategic oil reserves. In response, global investment bank Goldman Sachs raised its forecast for Brent crude in the fourth quarter of this year to $71 a barrel from $66. Its fourth-quarter forecast for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was also revised up to $67 from $62.
