Tensions in the Middle East are escalating further as Iran has made clear it will not accept a ceasefire unless the U.S. and Israel "capitulate."
According to BlockBeats, a cryptocurrency-focused media outlet, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly rejected a proposal to ease tensions through mediation at his first foreign policy meeting on the 17th. Khamenei was previously chosen as Iran’s supreme leader to succeed Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an attack last week.
He was also reported to have said that he would not consider a ceasefire or peace talks "until the U.S. and Israel capitulate, acknowledge defeat, and move to provide compensation."
The military confrontation between Iran and the U.S.-Israel has now entered its third week, with at least more than 2,000 deaths reported. Analysts say Iran’s continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is fueling higher international oil prices and intensifying global inflationary pressures.
Meanwhile, some outlets reported that Khamenei was injured in a previous airstrike and transported to Moscow, Russia, for treatment, but Iranian authorities denied the claim.
