An analysis suggests that Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, could soon surpass BlackRock’s Bitcoin (BTC) holdings.
According to cryptocurrency-focused media outlet Bitcoin Magazine on the 17th (local time), BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) holds about 781,000 BTC, while Strategy holds about 761,000 BTC. The gap between the two has narrowed to around 40,000 BTC.
Strategy has been rapidly increasing its holdings on the back of recent aggressive purchases. Over the first two weeks of March, it bought an additional roughly 40,332 BTC, bringing cumulative purchases since the start of the year to 88,568 BTC.
There is also a difference in how the two accumulate Bitcoin. While IBIT’s holdings fluctuate with ETF inflows, Strategy raises funds through common and preferred stock issuance and buys Bitcoin directly.
The market sees that if the current trend continues, Strategy could overtake BlackRock’s Bitcoin holdings within weeks.
