Iran’s government has reportedly confirmed the death of Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

According to major foreign media outlets on the 18th (local time), the SNSC said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel that “Ali Larijani has been martyred.”

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also issued a statement, saying that “what awaits the terrorist criminals who stained their hands with the blood of the oppressed yet brave martyrs on Iran’s sacred soil is harsh retaliation,” while strongly denouncing the United States and Israel.

Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement the previous day that “Larijani was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike last night.”

Foreign media also reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the death of Gholamreza Soleimani, commander-in-chief of the Basij militia, whom the Israeli military said was eliminated alongside him.
