Shares of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix surged on the 18th, pushing their combined share of the KOSPI’s total market capitalization above 40% for the first time on record.
According to the securities industry, Samsung Electronics’ market cap stood at 1,234 trillion 2,445 billion won as of the market close. It accounted for 25.22% of the KOSPI’s total market capitalization (4,892 trillion 1,357 billion won).
SK hynix posted a market cap of 752 trillion 6,137 billion won. Its share of the KOSPI’s total market capitalization reached 15.38%.
The combined market cap of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix totaled 1,986 trillion 8,582 billion won, representing 40.61% of the entire KOSPI market capitalization. According to the Korea Exchange, this marks the first time the two companies’ share of the KOSPI’s total market cap has topped 40%.
Meanwhile, the KOSPI closed at 5,925.03, up 284.55 points (5.04%) from the previous session, extending its winning streak to a third consecutive trading day. The KOSDAQ ended the session at 1,164.38, up 27.44 points (2.41%) from the prior close.
