A warning has been raised that cryptocurrency (crypto-asset) phishing attacks exploiting the AI-driven coding trend are spreading.

According to CoinDesk, a crypto-asset industry outlet, on the 19th (local time), Israeli cybersecurity firm OX Security said it recently identified a phishing scam targeting OpenClaw developers active on GitHub.

The attackers impersonated OpenClaw, luring users with a fake 'CLAW' token airdrop and directing them to a malicious site. The site was designed to resemble the official OpenClaw website and asks users to connect wallets such as MetaMask, WalletConnect, and Trust Wallet.

If a user approves wallet access permissions, assets inside the wallet are stolen.

Meanwhile, OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger previously banned any mention of crypto assets on the official Discord server to block such risks.

The case is seen as evidence that as the AI-based development ecosystem expands, security threats targeting related communities are also rising.
