The Iranian government said the United States and Israel attacked the Natanz nuclear facility.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said on the 21st (local time), in a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency, that “following the criminal attack by the United States and the Zionist regime, the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility was targeted this morning,” alleging the strike violated international law, including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), as well as regulations related to nuclear safety and security.

It added that the National Nuclear Safety System Center conducted technical and expert investigations, and that based on prior preparedness and monitoring-system data, no leakage of radioactive materials has been reported and there is no danger to residents in surrounding areas.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said via its official social media account that it had been notified by Iran that the Natanz nuclear facility was attacked today. “No increase in radiation levels off-site has been reported,” it said, adding that it is currently investigating the matter.

It also said it reiterated Director General Rafael Grossi’s position urging restraint in military action to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.

The Natanz nuclear facility was hit when the United States and Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June last year, and it has also reportedly been attacked since the war began last month.
