Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a hardline warning to the United States.
According to Walter Bloomberg on the 22nd (local time), the IRGC said, “If the United States strikes Iran’s energy facilities, companies that include US ownership stakes will be completely destroyed.”
It also warned, “If President Trump carries out an attack on energy facilities, we will completely close the Strait of Hormuz.”
The Strait of Hormuz is a key maritime chokepoint through which about 20% of global crude oil shipments pass; any blockade would likely deliver a major shock to global energy markets.
The remarks are being interpreted as signaling the risk that military confrontation in the Middle East could spread to energy infrastructure and maritime logistics.
