As crimes targeting virtual asset (cryptocurrency) holders rise, calls have emerged for stronger self-defense rights.
According to crypto-focused outlet DL News on the 23rd (local time), Ledger co-founder Eric Larchevêque argued for allowing firearm ownership, saying, "Crypto holders have the right to protect themselves."
He stressed, "Violent incidents targeting crypto holders have been increasing lately," adding that they should be able to carry "real weapons such as handguns."
The remarks came shortly after French and Spanish police arrested the last suspect in the criminal group that kidnapped and assaulted Ledger co-founder David Balland last year.
Larchevêque said he hired a private security firm after the incident, adding, "Even so, I have no intention of converting my crypto into fiat currency. I would feel more uneasy holding my life's achievements in euros."
The comments are seen as an example of how debate over personal security is widening as more people hold digital assets.
