Iran is tightening maritime controls by ordering vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz to turn back.

On the 24th (local time), citing Walter Bloomberg, Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, said the container ship was turned back because it had not gone through the required approval process for transit.

He stressed that prior coordination with and authorization from Iranian maritime authorities are mandatory to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The move is seen as an example of Iran strengthening its control over a key maritime shipping route amid rising military tensions in the Middle East.
