An analysis has found that major banks’ entry into the digital asset (cryptocurrency) market is not a short-lived fad but a strategy prepared over a long period.

According to digital asset-focused media outlet CoinDesk on the 24th (local time), Amy Oldenburg, Morgan Stanley’s head of digital asset strategy, said during a panel discussion at the Digital Asset Summit that “banks’ moves are not driven by FOMO but are the result of years of infrastructure buildout.”

She explained, “Large financial institutions have been preparing their digital asset businesses based on long-standing internal research,” adding that “they are now getting ready to support trading of tokenized equities on alternative trading systems (ATS).”

Oldenburg also pointed to differences between digital asset startups and traditional financial institutions, noting that “startup founders often underestimate the complexity of banking systems.”

The remarks are interpreted as suggesting that traditional finance’s push into digital assets is part of a structural shift rather than a short-term trend.
