Iran has rejected a US ceasefire proposal and presented its own conditions for ending the war.

According to Iranian state media on the 25th (local time), Press TV, Iran’s state-run English-language news channel, cited a senior political and security official as saying that Iran’s five-point response includes recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

The condition is seen as difficult for the United States to accept. President Donald Trump said the previous day that there could be a possibility that “the Ayatollah and I jointly” control the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a key chokepoint for global crude oil shipments.

Iran also demanded compensation for war damage. The conditions Iran presented include: △a complete halt to attacks and assassinations by hostile forces △the establishment of specific mechanisms to prevent a recurrence of war △guarantees for compensation for war damage and payment of reparations △ending the war by including all relevant forces across the Middle East △recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Fars News Agency, another state outlet, reported that the United States is stepping up efforts to secure a ceasefire and move toward indirect talks.

According to Fars, a source said, “Iran will not accept a ceasefire,” adding that “it is illogical to enter into negotiations with a counterpart that violates agreements.”

Iran added that the possibility of ending the conflict would only open after it has achieved its strategic objectives in the war.

The clash began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.

Meanwhile, The Associated Press reported that Iran received President Trump’s 15-point peace plan. While Trump said the two countries were in negotiations, Iran denied there were any direct talks.
