Forecast Trend Report by Period

Last week’s US initial jobless claims came in below market expectations.
The US Department of Labor said on the 26th (local time) that initial jobless claims totaled 210,000 last week. That was 1,000 below economists’ forecast of 211,000. It was also 5,000 higher than the prior week’s 205,000.
Continuing claims, which track those who have filed for benefits for two consecutive weeks, totaled 1,819,000. That is 32,000 below the prior week’s revised figure of 1,851,000. It is also 41,000 below the market estimate of 1,860,000.
Initial jobless claims are an indicator used to gauge overheating in the US labor market. An increase in claims can be interpreted as a sign that an overheated labor market is cooling.
Economists are closely watching employment indicators such as jobless claims to assess how President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff policies are affecting corporate decision-making.
