Israel bombs Iranian nuclear facility

Bushehr nuclear plant hit for the third time this month

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was attacked at around 11:40 p.m. on the 27th (local time).

According to the AEOI, the strike marked the third attack targeting the Bushehr area in southern Iran as the Middle East war enters its second month. The same facility was also attacked on the night of the 24th.

The AEOI said no casualties, material damage or technical disruptions had been reported.

The AEOI condemned the attack, saying it "constitutes a blatant violation of international law" and "poses a serious threat to regional security," as it targeted a peaceful nuclear facility.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also announced it had been notified by Iran of the strike on Bushehr.

The attack was not limited to Bushehr. Airstrikes also hit the Khondab heavy water complex within the Arak nuclear facility complex in Arak, Markazi Province in central Iran, and a uranium ore concentrate (yellowcake) production plant in Ardakan, Yazd Province. A steel mill in Khuzestan Province in the southwest, which uses radioactive materials, was also struck.

The IAEA said there was no risk of radiation leakage from the strikes on the Khondab heavy water complex and the Khuzestan steel mill.

Meanwhile, concerns are growing over the Bushehr nuclear plant on Iran’s southern Persian Gulf coast, as any radiation leak could cause major damage to coastal countries. Israel has vowed to step up the intensity of its attacks against Iran.
