Bithumb, a South Korean crypto exchange, said on the 30th that it held a ceremony to deliver equipment to support women’s baseball using funds raised through the fan-participation donation campaign “Bithumb Donation Challenge,” carried out with the SSG Landers.

The ceremony took place before the start of the home opener held on the 28th at Incheon SSG Landers Field. Attendees included Moon Seon-il, head of services at Bithumb; Choo Shin-soo, aide to the owner and head of player development at the SSG Landers; and Lim Hye-jin, president of the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK).

The donations were raised through the fan-participation campaign “Bithumb Donation Challenge,” which was held twice last year. About 7,000 baseball fans took part. A Bithumb official said the challenge “drew attention from baseball fans as an unusual collaboration between a crypto exchange and a professional baseball club,” adding that it “became even more meaningful by leading to a corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at broadening the base of women’s baseball.”

Bithumb used the 40 million won raised through the challenge to purchase 7,500 baseballs. The baseballs will be delivered to the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea and the country’s only girls’ youth baseball club, the Cheonan Junior Women’s Baseball Team, and will be used to improve players’ training conditions.

A Bithumb official said, “We are glad to be part of this meaningful occasion where donations collected through fans’ participation are delivered to women’s baseball players,” adding, “We will continue to contribute to spreading a healthy culture of giving through various social contribution activities.”
