U.S. President Donald Trump said that while talks with Iran have made progress, he is also signaling the possibility of military action against the country’s energy infrastructure if no deal is reached.
On the 30th, Trump wrote on Truth Social that "the United States is engaged in serious negotiations to end military operations with a new, more reasonable government in Iran, and we have made substantial progress."
He added, "There is a strong chance a deal will be reached soon, but if it is not and the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately, we will completely destroy Iran’s power plants and oil fields, and Kharg Island," warning that "this could include facilities we have deliberately not attacked up to now."
Trump argued that such steps would be retaliatory in nature for U.S. troops and others who were victimized by Iran’s former regime.
