On the 31st, the overseas business breaking-news channel Walter Bloomberg reported on X (formerly Twitter) that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, "We want a deal, but if not, we’ll negotiate through bombing."
Hegseth said "various scenarios are possible" for what comes next—"4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks"—and stressed that "the key on the battlefield is to maintain unpredictability." He added that "whether the United States will deploy ground troops will also be left intentionally uncertain."
He also said, "We have multiple options in case the Strait of Hormuz is not opened," adding that "the international community must be prepared to act more proactively."
On military intelligence, he said, "We are aware of indications that some hostile forces are providing Iran with inappropriate information," while adding that "we are prepared to continue operations even if a deal is not reached."
