World (World, WLD) said on the 1st that it will hold its global developer program 'World Build 3.0 (World Build 3.0)' in South Korea for the first time.
'World Build 3.0' is a global program in which developers around the world build mini apps that can be used in the World App. The program will kick off its full schedule starting with a hackathon on the 23rd.
The hackathon will be held at the World flagship store in Seoul. An offline session for networking between developers from around the world and local participants is also planned. Teams with strong results will be given the opportunity to join 'Build Week,' a bootcamp in South Korea for the top 10 teams globally.
An online accelerator program will then run from May through September, and the final selected teams will present their projects to global venture capital (VC) investors at 'Demo Day' in San Francisco, US.
Participants will design and implement mini apps built on the World App. Key development themes include coding, World Chat and World ID. During development, technical support and mentoring will be provided through online workshops with engineers and product leaders from Tools for Humanity.
Previously, South Korean development team HumanLabs built multiple mini apps through the 'World Build' program and launched them on the World App. Among them, 'Oculus (Oculus)' is a mini-app analytics and growth platform and has secured more than 3 million users. Cheon Jin-woo, co-founder of HumanLabs, said, "World Build is an important opportunity for founders aiming for global expansion from the early stages," adding, "It is meaningful in that it allows direct engagement with global investors and mentors."
World said it plans to expand the mini-app ecosystem and strengthen collaboration with the developer community through the program. Park Sang-wook, head of Tools for Humanity Korea, said, "The World App is a platform where developers can test services and deliver them to real users," adding, "As the first offline hackathon is being held in South Korea, we look forward to greater participation from more developers and students."
