OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has raised $122 billion in new funding.
In a statement on its official website, OpenAI said on the 31st (local time) that it had "finalized a $122 billion fundraising round." The financing values OpenAI at $852 billion. CoinDesk said the deal was "overwhelmingly larger than any fundraising conducted in the private markets," adding that "OpenAI has established itself as the most highly valued startup in history."
Amazon, Nvidia and SoftBank led the investment. Microsoft also participated in the round. Other participants included BlackRock, Blackstone, Fidelity, Sequoia and Temasek.
OpenAI also announced that its monthly revenue has recently surpassed $2 billion. ChatGPT’s weekly active users and subscribers have recently topped 900 million and 50 million, respectively. "OpenAI is becoming core infrastructure for AI," the company said, adding that "OpenAI’s revenue growth rate is four times higher than that of companies such as Meta and Alphabet, which led the internet and mobile eras."
OpenAI is also pursuing a plan to unify its services into a single product. The company said it is developing an "integrated AI super app" that will "combine functions such as ChatGPT, Codex and browsing into a single agent-centric experience."
