On the 1st (local time), Walter Bloomberg reported that President Trump plans to say in a national address that the roughly month-long Iran war has entered a "winding down" phase.
He is also expected to claim that key military objectives have been achieved, while pressuring allies to address the Strait of Hormuz issue.
At the same time, however, 2,500 U.S. Marines are set to be deployed additionally to the Middle East, meaning military tensions have not been fully eased.
Steve Bannon, a close Trump ally, said, "Trump will effectively declare victory and shift responsibility to Europe."
Europe, for its part, reportedly responded skeptically, countering that it "does not accept that narrative."
The remarks suggest there may be a gap between the political messaging around ending the war and the actual military situation.
